Physician Assistant (PA) - Surgery - Cardiothoracic
Job Details:
Work alongside attending Cardiothoracic Surgeons in the OR only as a first assist
On-call coverage for OR only; no office work required
Average of 10 outpatient and 5-8 inpatient patients per day
Vein harvesting required using the Maquet system
Documentation System/EMR: EPIC
New graduates will not be accepted
Typical day involves rounding in the hospital followed by time in the OR
Required duties include assisting in surgery, writing prescriptions, rounding, ordering tests, pre-op physical exams, suture removal, and vein harvesting
Assess patient health status, compliance with care plan, and determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the scope of PA license and/or certification
Provide acute and chronic patient care including patient histories, physical examinations, inpatient and outpatient consultations, discharge summaries, monitoring therapies, and medications
Care includes chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, cardiac rehab, nutritional needs, and wound care such as suture and staple removal and debridement
Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in consultation with the Cardiovascular Surgeon
Participate in multidisciplinary communication of treatment plans with cardiovascular surgeons, referring physicians, nursing staff, respiratory staff, cardiac rehab staff, and families
Respond to emergencies including use of CPR and ACLS protocols
Document patient information and care provided in patient records including progress notes and care plans
Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM with night call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 AM; Saturday and Sunday 24-hour on-call coverage from 7:00 AM to 7:00 AM
NCCPA certification required
Active Indiana license required at time of submission
Experience in Maquet Vein Harvesting required
Local candidates within driving distance highly preferred
A Self-Query NPDB report pulled within 30 days is required at time of presentation
